This bug seemed to be gone for a while but did appear again now with
xlibs 6.9.0.dfsg.1-1:

X Window System Version 6.9.0 (Debian 6.9.0.dfsg.1-1 20051229045140 David Nusinow <dnusinow@debian.org>)
...
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
expected keysym, got dead_diaresis: line 143 of pc/de
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:

Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

I have
	Option		"XkbRules"	"xorg"
	Option		"XkbModel"	"pc105"
	Option		"XkbLayout"	"de"
	Option		"XkbVariant"	"nodeadkeys"

Hope this helps.

regards
