I am sorry for not answering earlier, had to go out for a while.
Unfortunately, installing, reinstalling several times the packages has
not fixed the problem. In my system, after several reinstallations, the
status is as follows:
trc@hpd:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg libx11-6 x11-common | grep Status
Status: install ok installed
Status: install ok installed
Status: install ok installed
trc@hpd:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg libx11-6 x11-common | grep Version
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-10
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-10
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-10
 Version 11", "X11", "X11R6", and "X11R6.8". The version of X used in
 Debian

 and yet

trc@hpd:~$ emacs21
Undefined color: "black"
trc@hpd:~$

which is driving me crazy, since I use emacs for almost everything.

Thank you guys for your help.
