Bug#319361: xterm in utf-8 mode and newline

You entered 0xa4 (not a newline).  When the UTF-8 mode is selected, xterm
converts incoming keystrokes to UTF-8.  Presumably you did not modify your
locale at that point, so the shell or other application is seeing an
unexpected character.  The 0xa4 for instance is entered as 0xc2 0xa4.

Without more information, this sounds like expected behavior.
