Bug#251690: Problem with preconfiguring xserver-xfree86
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386
When I attempt to install xserver-xfree86 with apt-get (exact command:
"apt-get install xserver-xfree86"), I get the following output:
Preconfiguring packages ...
xserver-xfree86 failed to preconfigure, with exit status 127
(Reading database ... 120341 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking xserver-xfree86
(from .../xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error
processing /var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb
(--unpack):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 127
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
What SHOULD have happened is the successful installation of the package
xserver-xfree86, and any necessary dependencies, such as x-window-system,
which had been removed prior to running "apt-get install xserver-xfree86".
A copy of my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 is included at the end of this document.
Here is the output of "uname -a": Linux odin 2.6.5-1-k7 #2 Fri Apr 30 20:46:35
EST 2004 i686 GNU/Linux
The output of "dpkg -s libc6 | grep ^Version": Version: 2.3.2.ds1-12
At the time of writing, packages.debian.org was down, so I could not use
reportbug.
If you need any further information, it would be my pleasure to provide you
with it.
