In any event, XFree86 4.3.0-7 is now in Debian unstable (sid) and
testing (sarge), and it supports many more variations of the i8xx
chipset than XFree86 4.1.0 did.

If you elect to use Debian again, I'd be happy to work with you further
to resolve any problems you may have with XFree86.
