XFree 4.2.1 in debian unstable broken after upgrade on toshiba libretto l2 1280x600 screen

Hi out there! I am using debian unstable since 14 months on my toshiba libretto l2 crusoe
laptop. X was running just fine on the tiny 1280x600.
Then two days ago, I dist-upgraded again. Now the xserver-xfree86 4.2.1-2 is installed.
After boot X is started und gnome too, I can hear the beep when gnome starts, but the
screen is mostly black with a stripe of white pixels, and I cannot see anything.
So I made a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86, with startx i could start X, then I
corrected XF86Config-4 to fit my 1280x600 screen, startx again works, the screen is like
before, I mean 1280x600.
after reboot the screen is still ok. but aber a real shutdown and restart next day, X is
broken like before.
I experienced that i have to run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86, startx with wrong
resolution, change it and startx again for having the right screen. after a real shutdown
i have to do the dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 thing again.
