It is most likely a problem with your download software not being able to cope with files larger than 2^31 or 2^32 bytes. This is a common problem. I recommend a resonably modern lftp for downloading.

The dvd isos from cdimage.debian.org has been downloaded and verified several times, both with regard to file size and MD5SUM.
