Yes, i would find that very useful.
Sometimes the long description also contains lists, links and such.
They are rendered as HTML for the web pages, it would be nice to use
that for $long_desc (properly encoded for xml though. I believe
using cdata is the most efficient, since you probably have to encode
less; but usually the xml writer handles this for you.)
