Package: www.debian.org
Version: unavailable; reported 2003-09-15
Severity: minor

The webpage:
http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/templates/hints
describes the (among others) the use of debconf-getlang

Using this tool I get this message:
debconf-getlang: This utility is deprecated;
you should switch to using the po-debconf package.

Maybe the webpage should be updated to describe po-debconf
instead of debconf-getlang.

 That is right, because the /templates/ part of the l10n section is
about debconf-getlang.

 That is right, too, because templates were the old system, and
po-debconf is the new one.

 po-debconf is described on
<http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/>

 There are still templates based packages and it wouldn't be nice to
tell translators that it doesn't make sense to translate them -- because
that would be wrong. There is a nice transition plan from templates to
po-debconf and thus the pages should stay the way they are for those
packages that haven't moved yet.

 Once all packages use po-debconf instead of the old templates that part
of the website could be removed -- but we aren't not there yet, thus I'm
closing this bugreport.

 Thanks for the interest, though.

Perl modules tend to have nicely hierierachical layout and good
descriptive names (except for when they don't).
