Bug#129848: www.debian.org: "more info" URL in package descriptions

Package: www.debian.org
Version: 20020118
Severity: wishlist

Quite frequently, you'd like to know a little bit more about a package
before you decide to go ahead and install it. (Sometimes, installing a
package means that you have to install quite a number of other
packages which it depends upon, which will not be automatically
removed if you decide to get rid of the package you really wanted to
try out. Perhaps there's a single feature you want, and having to
download and install the whole package just to see if it's there at
all seems like severe overkill.)

What I've wished for many, many times is a link to a package's
non-Debian home page from the package page. Most programs nowadays
have some sort of on-line presence, and it would seem to be a useful
service to provide a link right from the package description.

I do realize that this is not something that can be implemented
overnight, but providing a facility for it would be a good start.

Thanks,

/* era */
