The makers of the long-around Windows XaraX vector drawing program are
working on a GPL'ed linux release, and I plan to package that for
debian. I already contacted the upstream authors, and they will happily
assist me.

If someone really wants to work on this two, I'm sure we can arrange
some co-maintainership.
