--- The Debian Project reaffirms its support to its DPL. The Debian Project does not object to the experiment named "Dunc-Tank", led by Anthony Towns, the current DPL, and Steve Mc Intyre, the Second in Charge. However, this particular experiment is not the result of a decision of the Debian Project. The Debian Project wishes success to projects funding Debian or helping towards the release of Etch. --- I second this proposal. Independantly of being pro or con dunc-tank (or duck-tank ;-), and of the fact that there are already DDs being paid by outside companies (should we kick them out?) or any other opinion, impression, myth or fact about dunc-tank: I'm seriously disappointed how some people in Debian handled this issue. Especially by using threats to force their opinion or getting personal against our DPL, who is *trying* to improve Debian, instead of just doing some happy talking and fighting. He has my full support just for actually *trying* to improve things, whether or not they turn out to be a success or not. In my opinion the way some people here handled this issue is harming the spirit and morale of Debian more than the dunc-tank project ever could. Reading these recent threads (this also includes some other recent discussions), I wonder if Debian is the right place for me because of THEM, not because of the whole dunc-tank thing itself. I don't care if someone else receives money for doing Debian work. In fact I might even donate myself; and I've mentored in the summer of code which should give Debian $500 in donations by Google. However, I don't have the impression that we're making good use of the funds donated to Debian so far, actually, which gives me the impression of _wasting_ efforts on Debian when trying to get some money for the project e.g. on conferences and trade shows like the Systems in Munich. Anyway, I havn't really made up my mind about Dunc-Tank yet, but I definitely don't like how some of the opposers of it acted. And I don't think our DPL deserves the treatment aimed at by the other proposal. best regards, Erich Schubert -- erich@(vitavonni.de|debian.org) -- GPG Key ID: 4B3A135C (o_ Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous? --- Calvin //\ Nur der ist weise, der weiß, dass er es nicht ist. --- Sokrates V_/_
