It looks like the user settings in the top RH pull down are not writing to this file.
I've now edited this file for auto login

In gnome3 desktop the panel is larger and is on either the LH or RH side of the screen.
On the panel are the commonly used apps and any that are running.
It seems to loose tethered as sometimes its on the left sometime on the righ

I have nothing in the drop down on the login pane except system default
