Run "xev" and type the combo of one of the characters you are not 
getting, like "[" to see what you get instead. 

Also, review your "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" file.

BTW, how do you setup your keyboard/mouse settings in "dwm"?

Hum... There was a bug about this:

dwm: Almost unusable with a french keyboard.

But is hard to believe dwm cannot be setup easily to work with a non-US 
keyboards :-?
