You could probably work around some of the licensing issues by using
tricks such as distributing the original source and the Debian patches
separately, compiling the binary on each user's computer, downloading
the icon from the mozilla website, etc. Nevertheless, I think the
Mozilla Foundation could always forbid you to refer to this creation as
"firefox" since they own the brand name. Renaming the package/executable
avoids these legal issues and it allows you to take advantage of the
autobuild infrastructure which is available for packages in "main".
(AFAIK, a non-free package always means more work for the package
maintainer.)
