Since he's running GNOME, Krusader might not be the best fm for him
to use.
$ apt-cache search file manager | grep fm |sort
dfm - Desktop-File-Manager for X11
emelfm - file manager for X/gtk
lfm - a simple but powerful file manager for the UNIX console
pcmanfm - extramly fast and lightweight file manager for X Window
vifm - a ncurses based file manager with vi like keybindings
xfm - X file and application manager
Try pcmanfm first, since it's GTK 2.0, and then emelfm. Lastly xfm
if you want to see the *cutting* *edge* from 1998 (and still darned
useful, especially if you're box has 64MB RAM and is running fvwm).

Is "common sense" really valid?
For example, it is "common sense" to white-power racists that
whites are superior to blacks, and that those with brown skins
are mud people.
However, that "common sense" is obviously wrong.
