If you mean a wireless router, the ones I've used to act as a DNS for the
network they serve, and themselves get a DNS address to use via DHCP (as
Stephen wrote) from the upstream. IOW, that should have worked.
If you're using the resolvconf package, I believe your name servers are set
in /etc/network/interfaces rather than in /etc/resolv.conf.
