There is a *considerable* time difference, e.g

# time apt-cache search network
[..]
real    0m19.095s
user    0m6.900s
sys     0m10.570s

# time aptitude search ~dnetwork
[..]
real    1m11.496s
user    0m37.050s
sys     0m25.240s
