Temporary failure in name resolution (PPPoE)

I am using PPPoE to connect to the internet. For a few minutes after booting
the computer and running "pppoe-start", I get this error:

$ ssh research.iiit.ac.in
ssh: research.iiit.ac.in: Temporary failure in name resolution

How can I avoid this problem?
