you have probably solved the problem already but just in case that you
haven't i have 2 more suggestions:
did you include this line in the head of your HTML code?
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
did you set the editor you use for coding to open/save using UTF-8
charset? some editor (like Quanta) require this to be set on two places..
