It is very annoying. Thank you. Based on your lsmod output you do NOT have any alsa modules installed. Alsa modules begin with snd_ plus the type of card you have. For example my lsmod gives snd_via82xx 26080 1 snd_ac97_codec 72828 1 snd_via82xx snd_pcm_oss 47656 0 snd_mixer_oss 16896 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 81160 3 snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_timer 23300 1 snd_pcm snd_page_alloc 10376 2 snd_via82xx,snd_pcm among other things. Do I have to guess what kernel you are running? 2.4? 2.6? I guess 2.4 since you say you "installed alsa". Alsa comes with 2.6.
