It's still a good idea to create a user and not run everything as root
- use root when only necessary to do so.
An easy way I find to switch over to root is to just have another
konsole window up with root access. In konsole just click on new root
konsole and a new tab will be created where you can type the root
password. Then all you need to do is mouse click from a user konsole to
a root one when you need to be root.
