Can't Defrag Ext3 File System

Have read manuals and done Google Debian search but can't get e2defrag to run on KI 2.6.8-2-686
with Ext 3 FS. Here's what I did and results:
ChatagnierL-Home:/var/log#  *e2defrag -drsv /dev/hda2*
DEBUG: read_tables()

e2defrag (/dev/hda2): filesystem has unsupported features

Read man e2defrag and picked up to run tune2fs -O if defrag gave the above unsupported features message. However, man e2defrag and tune2fs gave no info on which feature to add or remove, so
I did the following, with and without the ^ prefix with following results:
ChatagnierL-Home:/var/log# *tune2fs -O dir_index, filetype, has_journal, sparse_super*
tune2fs 1.37 (21-Mar-2005)
Usage: tune2fs [-c max-mounts-count] [-e errors-behavior] [-g group]
       [-i interval[d|m|w]] [-j] [-J journal-options]
       [-l] [-s sparse-flag] [-m reserved-blocks-percent]
       [-o [^]mount-options[,...]] [-r reserved-blocks-count]
       [-u user] [-C mount-count] [-L volume-label] [-M last-mounted-dir]
       [-O [^]feature[,...]] [-T last-check-time] [-U UUID] device
ChatagnierL-Home:/var/log#

I understand that I have to run e2fsck after running tune2fs and before rerunning e2defrag again. I must be doing someting wrong but haven't a clue. Would someone please help as I would hate to screw up my hard disk as was done once before using e2fsck incorrectly. My Debian system is more than 5 months old and has never been defragged but I'm still very much a newbie.
