how do I know for certain hotplug is running ?

I thought I'd find an hotplugd daemon running but that's not the case(there are udevd and dbus-daemon-1 and hald daemons though ).

My hotplug is working aok but trying to troubleshoot a friend's problemby email I asked him if hotplug was running but soon discovered I do notknow how to assess this.
