I've now found that it does open with gv, surprisingly.
I accept I may have posted in a moment of irritation but I have
downloaded a number of other manuals for other products at different
times and none of them has ever required a particular viewer previously.
I don't think that it requires exceptional benevolence on the part of
manufacturers to provide PDFs of their manuals on their websites, since
this will presumably encourage people to buy their products if they know
they can obtain such information in the future.
