Oh, and about my mobo having a lan port as a firewire port, well, this
mobo was made before firewire even existed.

I took a look at that thread and then read another thread to which a link was given there. It turns out I do have at least one difference with what is happening there. On my system ohci_hcd and eth0 are sharing an interrupt.
