copy'n'paste problems in X with UTF8

Hi all,

I am using the en_GB.UTF8 locale and rxvt-unicode as a terminal
emulator. That seems to work, I can see unicode characters
interspersed with the shell, which is cool! However, cut'n'paste is
not working. Most of the time, only parts of the copied text are
pasted (or only parts are copied and then all pasted, I don't know),
and pasting in vim causes the editor to exit after leaving some
weird characters on various of the context lines.

For instance, when I copy the texpast

G causes the editor to exit after leaving some weird characters on
various of the context lines.

For instance, when I copy the text

  Greetings in various languages

and then paste it, the shell will say

  ~$ Greeting

with the cursor after the 'g'.

If I paste the same text into vim (insert mode, with out without set
paste), the editor will write some text, usually just one letter,
then exit insert mode and perform some weird jumps, copies and
replaces through the document, sometimes exiting and saving the
file, sometimes not saving it.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
