Did you try to play a sound? Does it work? Did you try rebooting?

No, *always* check to see if the kernel comes with the driver first,
and trust those unless given reason not to. This is a little
backwards of the Windows world, yes, but hey, Linux has a distribution
model that lets us be inclusive like that.
