The key point is to set correct module options for the external sound card.
On the base of normal alsa-0.9 module options, I changed the snd_index
and snd_id from 0 to 1. Then /dev/dsp1 is working for the external sound
card. The line in the module configuration file looks like below.
options snd-als4000 snd_index=1 snd_id=CARD_1
