There's an island called Ocrakoke on the NC Outer Banks with a highly
unusual accent: (almost) Elizabethan english mixed with a redneck drawl.

Some Ocracoke words, such as mommuck ("to harass or bother") and
quamish ("sick in the stomach"), date back to at least Shakespeare's
day.

They are some wierd offshoot of the first people that landed here WAY
back in the day. Some people think they are descended from the Lost
Colony people.
