It's true that some files have been removed from the Debian kernel
source. /usr/share/doc/kernel-image-2.4.20/README.Debian.1st.gz on this
system (which may be a bit out of date) says:

  Non-free bits removed:

  * Keyspan firmware.
  * SMC Token Ring firmware, driver disabled.
  * ACENIC firwmare, driver disabled.
  * DGRS firmware, driver disabled.
  * DAB firmware, driver disabled.
