What effect are you actually after?It comes in quite handy when you boot e.g. a machine which lost its network connection due to some network problem and which tries to lookup some hostnames on bootup or start a bind server. The DNS lookups might have some quite long timeouts and if you can skip this service instead it comes in quite handy. :-)Harry
