installing a new kernel with other OSes present
hey all,
yesterday i tried to roll a customized kernel and install it on this
machine i'm bringing up. however, it has both a redhat and a windoze
partition also sitting on the box, and i need to keep both of those
(although i may have already trashed them -- oops). but i need to try
:)
before when i've rolled and installed my own kernel with debian, it's
been a breeze -- roll the thing; install it with dpkg; reboot and
you're golden. this time, though, it asked me some questions about
where to put what, and other OSes, that i answered as best i could ...
but upon rebooting, i had screwed up my MBR -- i got a screenful of
1's and 0's.
how can i avoid doing this a second time? is there a good how-to out
there on installing a kernel when you want to keep your other OS
partitions?
thanks!
