Yep, I got errors in simulation as well.

Bit pricey... my CyberDrive CW-088D (48x write) cost 35 quid (exc.
VAT) which is about $50 I think. Works a treat.

I understand your concerns, but I wouldn't be advising you to get a
new drive if I didn't think it'd solve things... I'm all in favour of
keeping old kit running!
