I haven't used a Windows box for anything other than running QuickBooks Pro
for my wife's business and playing Reader Rabbit with the chilluns in
several years. Be prepared to do stuff yourself; it helps immensely if you
can find other would-be Unix users so that you can help each other through
rough spots.

In the event that you simply cannot live without Windows (i.e., your company
requires a specific Windows-only app that won't run under Wine), then
consider running VMware. Last time I checked, a license was far cheaper
than a second laptop.
