xfs vs xfs-tt?

If you run xfs-tt (or xfstt), do you need to have xfs running?  I 
thought I heard that xfs in Xfree 4.0+ could handle serving truetype 
fonts.  If that is indeed the case, do I need to run a special TrueType 
font server?  Is there anything special that needs to be done to server 
TT fonts with xfs?  TIA.
