RE: SanDisk ImageMate mount problem...

Craig,

Thanks for the update. I'm enough of a newbie that the original error
message had me wondering about /dev/sda1 not being a block device. My
(probably wrong) reasoning was that if it was really a driver issue then it
would probably crumple later.

So I put this one on hold. Actually I give this one (SDDR55) to my daughter
and I buy a Linux compatible one.

On the plus side it drive me to finally compile a kernel. That in itself
was a good exercise. Did everything wrong, but eventually got a new kernel
with everything working as near as I can tell. Of course I got beat up in
the process, but hard heads always need knowledge pounded in with 2x4s!

I had done a google search for "sddr 55", but had not added the linux. At
your suggestion I just looked for 'sddr 55 linux' (without the quotes).
Found some very interesting stuff. I guess if I wanted to hack with the 2.5
kernel I could get SDDR 55 support. The other things was how many things
are time stamped at xx:55!

Cheers,
-rick

A quick search of Google for "SDDR 55 Linux USB Mass Storage" turns up
a tech support page at sandisk.com that says that the SDDR-55 is not a
USB Mass Storage device and is not supported under Linux. So I think
you're out of luck on this one.

In fact, SanDisk's web site says specifically that only the SDDR-31 and
SDDR-33 are supported under Linux. The SDDR-31 only reads Compact Flash
cards, and the SDDR-33 reads SD cards (I'm not sure what they are, but
they apparently are something different from SmartMedia) and
MultiMediaCards (ditto). So if you specifically need a SmartMedia
reader, I think you'll have to look for another brand. Sorry.

Craig
