Hi Paul

The Realtek chipset is supported by the module 8139too in the 2.4 series, 
rtl8139 only works for 2.2 kernels. I just set up a play box from potato 
then dist-upgraded to sid and 2.4.18 and promptly lost networking. Realised 
(eventually) that I'd forgotton to change /etc/modules before the reboot ;)
