However, most ISP's use PAP so it is best to try that before messing around
with minicom. You only need it to puzzle out wierd scripted logins.

Better to use pppconfig (which he also already has). He can then use pon
to start a connection and poff to stop it. If a GUI is required install
gpppon, a GUI wrapper around pon and poff.
