Problems with xfree 4.1.0.1 under woody

After starting X (either with startx or gdm) as root an annoying sequence of warning are shown, somewhat cryptic to me.

Here it is the script I've recorded:

<snip>
SetKbdSettings - type: 2 rate: 30 delay: 500 snumlk: 0
SetKbdSettings - Succeeded
ERROR: Cannot open toc file '--sm-config-prefix' for reading: No such file or directory
ERROR: Cannot open toc file '--sm-client-id' for reading: No such file or directory
ERROR: Cannot open toc file '117f000001000100431177200000005460000' for reading: No such file or directory

Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler containing data (0x814EA80)
rm:

waiting for X server to shut down Gdk-ERROR **: X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
cannot remove `/root/.gnome//gmc-olHTH6': No such file or directory

woody:/var/run/esound# exit
<snip>

This doesn't happen at all if I startx as an ordinary user.

Is there anyone out there able to tell me what it all means and how could I fix it?

Ciao
Vittorio
