Re: small school: replacements for MS Word and Excel

Thanks so much.

Please keep me posted about how staroffice runs for you.

I would prefer to use more Linux Native software: Abiword, Gnumeric, etc. But if they're not up to snuff yet, staroffice may be the answer for now.

Thanks again,

Joe Golden,

hi. Just installed staroffice in my computer. Believe it or not, my
computer is (Still) a 486dx4. But because I have 48 mega of ram and a new
20 gigabyte harddrive, for me it runs nice. I can install only some
applications of staroffice. When I downloaded, there we available small
packages of each aplication or a huge 100 mega package, that after
instalation it will take 256 mega plus 1.6 megas per user. Staroffice is
nice. I havenet tested
it, but Im sure that if you have enough memory, ex 32 mega and pentium
processor it will run very very well. If you say you are upgrading from
win nt, then you have such machines, otherwise the computers with net were
horribly slow. AS for my opinion, staroffice is very nice, A plus is that
staroffice interface is rather similar to windows, which makes it very
atteractive to newbies.
