there may be a better way, but here's how i did it.  once you have potato
installed, just edit your /etc/apt/sources.list to point to something
like:

deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free

or whatever is best for your location.  then:

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
