By the way:

http.us.debian.org resolves round robin style to several mirrors ...

finn@volta:~ $ host http.us.debian.org
http.us.debian.org A 209.197.224.62
http.us.debian.org A 207.69.194.216
http.us.debian.org A 209.249.97.234
http.us.debian.org A 141.213.4.21
http.us.debian.org A 24.220.0.13
http.us.debian.org A 206.187.92.15

If you're getting poor performance out of http.us.debian.org you could
try these IPs one by one to see which is best, and then use that mirror
exclusively ...
