Wading in late but....
Why not
cd /path; find . | cpio -dump /other/path
Does everything, leaves it just as it was. Or if you don't want to cross
file system boundaries
cd /path; find . -mount | cpio -dump /other/path
(We now return to your regularly scheduled messages...)
