Estimado:
Tal vez no sea la persona más idónea con nVdia, pero ante un problema
similar al tuyo que tuve hace un par de semanas, instalé los driver de
nVidia por primera vez.
El único tutorial que realmente funcionó fue éste:
http://wiki.debian.org/es/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers
y hay que seguirlo AL PIE DE LA LETRA.
El título del mismo es "Este documento explica como hacer uso del
hardware de video NVIDIA en un sistema GNU/Linux Debian. La siguiente
seccion describe brevemente los drivers libres, mientras que el resto
del documento cubre los drivers no libres con aceleracion 3D."
Verás que tiene lo que buscas.
