externe Festplatte - timeout



Hallo, 

ich habe gerade meine neue externe Festplatte (160 GB, Samsung) bekommen, usb 
angeschlossen und debian hochgefahren. 

aus dmesg entnehme ich, dass die Platte erkannt wurde, aber am Ende kommen 
timeout-error Meldungen (s.u.)
wenn ich

wird die Platte nicht angezeigt. 

mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 oder mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda1 funktioniert somit auch 
nicht, weil sda1 nicht da ist.

wie bekomme ich die Platte zum Laufen? vielen Dank für Hinweise, Ciao Martin
