Nur so als Vermutung, mußt Du eventuell nicht das Gerät sondern eine
Partition mounten?
mount -t vfat /dev/sdd1 /card
Zumindest läuft es bei meiner Kamera auf diese Weise...

Ansonsten, was sagt denn (als root)
file -s /dev/sdd*
