Bei mir wars auch so, und zwar unter X !!!
Der liest die /etc/profile, /root/profile und /root/.bashrc nicht
Ist eine Eigenheit von X
habe in meine ~/.Xsession einfach ein 'source .bash_profile' gemacht
und jetzt gehts.
Muste das manuell beheben...
