Bug#530832: fails to remove: attempted use of update-texmf-config in postrm.

reassign 530832 buildd.debian.org
thanks

Hi,

There seems to be some really weird thing going on on the ia64 buildd
"mundi". It seems it has unofficial sources in its sources list!

That's not the first error. The first suspicious entry in the log is:

,----
| WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
| ucf tex-common texlive-common texlive-doc-base ed mime-support libkpathsea4
| libexpat1 libfreetype6 libmagic1 file libnewt0.52 libpopt0 whiptail defoma
| ttf-dejavu-core ttf-dejavu-extra ttf-dejavu fontconfig-config libfontconfig1
| libjpeg62 libopenjpeg2 libxml2 libpoppler4 libxau6 libxdmcp6 libxcb1
| libx11-data libx11-6 x11-common libice6 libsm6 libxext6 libxt6 libxmu6
| libxpm4 libxaw7 texlive-base-bin texlive-base libfribidi0 sgml-base
| texlive-base-bin-doc xml-core
|
| Extracting templates from packages: 69%
| Extracting templates from packages: 100%
| Preconfiguring packages ...
| Authentication warning overridden.
`----

After that, the next strange thing is:

,----
| Selecting previously deselected package texlive-base.
| Preparing to replace texlive-base 2007.dfsg.2-4 (using .../texlive-base_2007.dfsg.2-4_all.deb) ...
| Reinstalling deleted mandatory conffile modes.mf
| cp: cannot stat `/usr/share/texlive-base/modes.mf': No such file or directory
| dpkg: error processing /srv/mundy.debian.org/chroots/buildd/sid/var/cache/apt/archives/texlive-base_2007.dfsg.2-4_all.deb (--unpack):
| subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
`----

Why does it talk about "previously deselected", but then about
"replace"? Hm, could be that texlive-base was in state rc? Is this
intended on buildds, or should packages be purged?

Next, /usr/share/texlive-base/modes.mf is a completely ordinary file
installed from within the deb. How can it be missing? The preinst code
with the message "Reinstalling" is only executed upon upgrade, and
according to policy if the package was in state rc previously, the
preinst ist called with argument "install".

This is really strange, but given that we didn't make any changes to
texlive in the last weeks, I don't see how it's related to our packages.

Regards, Frank
