I wouldn't make the whole story that complicated. The submitter just
wants a small reminder to call updmap after he updated updmap.cfg. If
you don't like the simple solution above, we could expand the message
a little bit:

"Don't forget to call updmap, if you've installed/removed fonts!
That should only be necessary if the installation was done manually
and not by a Debian package."
